More about our stars...

World-renowned tango dancer and teacher Ney Melo started in the New York City and Buenos Aires tango scenes, learning from the old milongueros and dancing every night in the milongas. Ney is dedicated to inspiring students to dance tango with feeling, musicality, cadencia, and connection – the way it is danced in Buenos Aires. The atmosphere in his classes is relaxed, personable and lively, and he places equal emphasis on the lady’s role as the man’s. Technique and the essence of tango, both fundamental to dancing well, are stressed in whatever step is being shown. His instruction is highly respected and sought out by beginning and advanced dancers, as well as other teachers and choreographers.
In addition to running TangoVida, Ney has been busy touring the world. Ney regularly teaches and performs in Poland, Singapore, Malaysia, Romania, Slovenia, Australia, and New Zealand as well as extensively all over North America.

Amanda Archuleta’s dance path began in Albequerque, NM and currently she is training and teaching in New York City. Amanda began training in classical ballet and contemporary in 1988, which led her to years of performing and competing. Interested in partner dancing, she shifted her focus to swing, salsa, and many other ballroom dances, which eventually led her to Argentine Tango. Amanda’s fulltime focus on Argentine tango began in 2005; thereafter she traveled to Buenos Aires to live and study tango. She has studied under many greats with her major influence coming from Fabian Peralta, Virgina Pandolfi, Horacio Godoy. Since then, Amanda has taught at festivals and workshops all over the U.S. Most recently she has worked with Jay Abling, Robin Thomas and Ney Melo, which gives her nice diversity of style and technique.
She embraces the philosophy that a good teacher never stops learning and enjoys the process of bettering herself as a dancer as well as a teacher. Her training in Gyrotonic adds a deeper level of understanding and teaching movement in tango.

As professional dancers, they have had the opportunity to study and work with some of the greatest tango masters in the world. Throughout their travels living and working in Buenos Aires, New York and Montreal, they have studied with Gustavo Naveira, Pablo Veron, Ruben and Sabrina Veliz and nuevo dancers Marisol and Alejandro. These masters have inspired their research into the tango and have mentored them into developing their own voice.

Highlights of their career have included performing on a regular basis in theatres, festivals and private events. They also danced in several tango scenes in the Warner Brothers’ film, “Upside Down”, (starring Kirsten Dunst and Pablo Veron)

As artists living their passion, they are humbled to have the chance to work every day doing what they love ...dance.
