More about our stars...
Marika Landry & Mauro Peralta are one of the newest couples on the North American scene. They are instructors at the Gotan dance school in Montréal and have been featured performers with notable orchestras such as Ensemble Montréal Tango.
Marika Landry was drawn to dance at an early age, studying jazz, modern and classical techniques. Marika Landry has 24 years of dancing experience, committing in the last eleven years to the argentine tango. In 1998 she finished her studies in modern dance in the Dance School of Quebec and decided to dedicate herself to the Argentine tango. In 2001 she went to Mexico City to teach and dance with Gregorio Garrido. Back to Montreal in 2003, after a two years tour round North America, she gave lessons on Argentine tango in said City, involving herself in the opening of the school Tango Fabrika with Bulent Karabagli.
Since 2004, she is internationally recognized due to her capacity as dancer, teacher and her technique Workshops for the women all round North America and Europe. In 2006, she met Robin Thomas. With him she participated in several festivals in the United States. In 2008 she opened her own dance company under the name Karima Tango. On the same year she participated in the first project of tango therapy in Canada, together with psychologist France Potvin. Embracing now a new turn in her career, since March 2009 she began a new promising project together with Mauro Peralta.
Mauro Peralta committed to argentine tango in 1998, in Buenos Aires. He trained hard with several teachers and at the same time trained in modern dance, classical dance, jazz, yoga and gym. He has taught extensively
and performed to great acclaim in Argentina and abroad.
After years of travelling around Europe and the United States, Marika Landry and Mauro Peralta decided to form a dancing couple and join the dance school Montreal Gotan. They aim for connection and creativity, teaching an updated classical Tango, and giving their students the elements to achieve a personal style.
Marika and Mauro help their students develop strong communication in their dance. Dancers learn to become comfortable in the surrounding space and with their dance partner, while using a strong earth connection and fluid movement. Using keen physical awareness, students work on their body control, achieving new dynamics in their movements without losing the sensuality of Tango. They have stage experience as both choreographers and dancers through their work in the companies Karima Tango and Ensemble Montreal Tango. Since March 2009, they have traveled together in Europe for the first Tango Festival in Nice, and they have participated at the second International Tango Congreso in Toronto and at the first Tango Festival of Québec City.
