August 27: Eduardo Goytia and Yamila Viana

This week, we welcome Eduardo Goytia, popular NY teacher and 2007 Salon champion, and Yamila Viana, new sensation about town.
DJ Tine

Eduardo Goytia will teach the class themed "Salon Favorites" at 830pm. Upper level, included with admission.

Around midnight Eduardo will perform with Yamila Viana. Wear goggles to deal with sparks!

Eduardo was the 2007 US National Champion in Argentine Tango Salon, and with his partner Cyrena Drusine, the couple also became the only American couple to ever make it to the finals of the World Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He teaches at DanceSport and Triangulo. Eduardo oversees the milonga from 6'1" up, and he's a popular dancer in NYC with ladies of all sizes.

Yamila Viana is from, uhm, Argentina, Italy and possibly other places. The mystery only adds to her allure! So you think dancing tango is more exciting than collecting stamps! But how about doing acrobatics hanging from the ceiling on a silk ribbon! Yamila does both (plus flamenco, ballet, contemporary dance and long walks on the beach), but with the ceiling so low and not much advance notice to fix it, today it will be her tango being shown off by Eduardo Goytia.

More about Eduardo
Eduardo Goytia is a well-known Tango instructor and performer based in New York City with over 13 years of teaching and performing experience. While he specializes in the Tango Salon style, Eduardo's range of knowledge is broad and he teaches across a wide array of styles including Tango Salon, Tango Nuevo and Tango for stage. He is especially known for his musciality and for understanding how differently Tango Salon, Tango Confiteria, Milonga and Vals should be danced. Eduardo is also recognized for his elegance, long lines (he's 6'1) and for demonstrating a deep connection with his partners.
Eduardo became the 2007 US National Champion in Argentine Tango Salon after which he and his championship partner, Cyrena Drusine, also became the only American couple to ever make it to the finals of the World Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Officially representing the USA in the championships, they were invited to meet with the US Ambassodor to Argentina at the US Embassy and were honored by the Ambassador's presence at the semi-finals, the night Cyrena and Eduardo were announced as finalists.
Eduardo teaches group classes, workshops and privates at the dance studios Dancesport and Triangulo in Manhattan as well as at special events and schools around the city and abroad. Eduardo can be seen dancing regularly at milongas around the city as well as performing with visiting teachers and regular partners on stage, in shows and at special events.

There isn't any more bio about Yamila. You will just have to come and see.

DJ Tine

Marc Hussner was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. At the age of 21, he left for Sweden where he lived for three years. Restlessness and a great desire to travel brought him to quit his job, sell his belongings and leave for a South American tour. In Argentina he found tango and dedicated himself exclusively to this art-form. Marc trained intensively, studying with world-class teachers like Gustavo Naveira & Giselle Anne, Chicho Frumboli & Juana SepĂșlveda, AndrĂ©s Amarilla & Meredith Klein, among many others.
The years that Marc spent in Argentina allowed him to rapidly progress to a high level, gathering a lot of valueable information as he grew. Known for his dynamic yet graceful style, Marc combines different influences to develop a creative and modern tango, yet holding true to its origins. He believes a good dancer should combine all different aspects of tango: connection, musicality, technique, vocabulary and history. As an addition to his tango studies and to support his development as a dancer Marc practices pilates, elongation, studies Alexander technique and body awareness method.

Krissy is known for her intricate footwork and playful musicality. Though drawn to the athleticism of modern tango dancing, her versatility takes her over pre-established style boundaries to be fluent in everyone's embrace. Her enthusiasm and laid-back approach creates an easygoing learning environment, where students feel relaxed and inspired. Krissy emphasizes the importance for both leaders and followers to put technique, creativity and joy on equal grounds.
