Midnightish performance by Mike & Vanja

Mike Eblen stumbled across an Argentine Tango class in 2007, and he stumbled through his first few lessons. What started as a casual hobby eventually snowballed into a full-on obsession. Weekly group classes in Asheville, North Carolina were not enough.
If you asked Mike where the turning point was, he would probably tell you it fell somewhere between driving twelve hours for a weekend festival and putting his chances of graduating college on time at risk so he could fit in a trip to Portland for Valentango.
Mike has studied privately with a plethora of world renowned teachers including Alex Krebs, Tomas Howlin, Brigitta Winkler, Homer and Cristina Ladas and Robin Thomas to just name a few.
Mike’s philosophy on tango revolves around an emphasis on pure kinesthetic communication. He works to empower both the leader and the follower to take control of their own voice within the dance.
Mike is available for private lessons in NY from Sept 14 until the 24th. Contact Mike at:

He is completely fanatic about the dance, and shares his passion with his students. He teaches for the social dance floor, emphasizing the improvisational side of the dance through a strong communication between the lead and follow and on musicality. More about our artists:

Yamila Viana is a versatile and innovative dancer focusing on the quality of movement derived from various dance disciplines. She has a deep understanding of rhythmic dances such as jazz, flamenco, Latin, Capoeira, Argentine and Latin folk dances. Her curiosity to gain ore knowledge in dance led her to aerial dance and tango. With a strong background in classical and contemporary dance, Yamila joined the National Ballet Company in Buenos Aires in 1998. She performed and toured with the company throughout Latin America and Europe.
For 14 years tango has formed an integral part of Yamila's dance world. Her skills as a professional performer are Incorporated into her teaching method. Her teaching style is suitable for dancers of all ages and skill levels, from social to professional. Yamila shares with her students her experience in rhythm, musicality, interpretation, improvisation, creativity and emotion in the dance.
In 2007, Yamila moved to Italy and began teaching in Venice and Rome in addition to participating in numerous tango festivals.
For the next few years, Yamila will share her teaching experience between New York and Buenos Aires.

Alexis Rosen has been dancing Tango for nine years, and teaching for the last four. He first gained notice as an original and creative leader of Tango Nuevo. However, in the last couple of years he has focused closely on close embrace as well. Alexis believes that great dance is built on musicality, connection to the partner, and fundamental movement technique. Many of his classes start with a specific sequence of movements, which are then used to explore those three topics in depth. The first teachers to strongly influence Alexis were Robin Thomas and Mario Consiglieri. While he has learned from numerous other teachers in Buenos Aires and the U.S. since then, the biggest influence on his dance comes from the many great followers he has danced with, including his partner Vanja.
