More about Angeles and Michael

Passionate and versatile, professional show dancers and visionary choreographers Angeles and Michael are best known for their spectacular and breathtaking performances of the “Argentine Tango” – the authentic form of Tango that developed in Buenos Aires in the late 19th century and transformed into stage art.
Internationally recognized dancers, they regularly appear in music and dance festivals in US and abroad, corporate entertainment events and major concert halls and theatres, in addition to making numerous television, film and TV commercials appearances as principal dancers.
They portray a unique unforgettable style. Sensuality merged with power brings the look of a real show.
Using their creativity and extensive experience gathered through other forms of dance training (Ballet, Modern, Tango, Ballroom, Salsa, Folklore) they expand the boundaries of traditional dance

Angeles Chanaha was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She started dancing at the age of 5 and throughout her career she has studied a variety of dance styles (Argentine Tango, Folklore, Rock’n’Roll, Ballet, Modern).
Growing up in the heart of real Tango world, she has practiced one particular style - Argentine Tango - to it’s perfection. As a result she has performed with two of the most famous Tango dancers in the world: Miguel Angel Zotto - creator of  “Tango X Dos”- and Carlos Gavito -Tony Award Winner from a Broadway hit “Forever Tango”.
Angeles also performed on stage with the renowned singer Julio Iglesias, she has been featured on national TV (channel 11, channel 13), in international films, commercials, and fashion magazines, all related to tango.
From 1998 she was involved in every “Buenos Aires International Tango Festival”, the world’s largest annual event which attracts the best Tango dancers. She has also performed in multiple shows in Latin and South America (including the most prestigious show in Argentina “Senor Tango”) as well as toured around United States. Among other tango orchestras, Angeles has danced for “Los Cosos de al Lao” at the famous “Cafe Tortoni” in the city of Buenos Aires.
In 2003 Angeles created and choreographed the tango show “Tango en los Andes” for “Che Tango Company”, which had a huge success in Mendoza, Argentina.
As a one of a kind dancer, Angeles expresses sensuality and elegance, as well as represents woman’s character in Tango.

Michael Nadtochi started dancing at the age of ten in Moscow, Russia, and ever since dance was the main focus of his life.
By the age of eighteen as a successful performer/competitor in a global ballroom dance scene, he had won the title of Russian Youth Champion in 1994 and represented his country in a World Championship held in Slovenia.Throughout his career Michael received one-on-one coaching with European and World Champions Allan Tornsberg and Vibeke Toft to ensure the best possible training. Secrets of champions produced strong foundation for teaching students and dramatic competitive results.
Traveling all over Europe (France, Germany, England, Denmark, Norway and other countries) Michael earned international recognition and with his moving to U.S. in 1998 achieved even more success (awarded “Top U.S. National Dance Couple of the Year” in 2000).
Focusing on authentic Latin and South American rhythms, Michael studied Salsa with legendary Eddie Torres and Argentine Tango with the star of “Forever Tango” Broadway Show and Tony Award Winner Carlos Gavito, and at the same time he appeared in stage performances and National TV shows and commercials (Verizon TV commercial, American Express industrial film, “The Guiding Light” TV series, “Latin Fusion” off-Broadway show, “Fania All Stars” concert).

Mike Eblen stumbled across an Argentine Tango class in 2007, and he stumbled through his first few lessons. What started as a casual hobby eventually snowballed into a full-on obsession. Weekly group classes in Asheville, North Carolina were not enough.
If you asked Mike where the turning point was, he would probably tell you it fell somewhere between driving twelve hours for a weekend festival and putting his chances of graduating college on time at risk so he could fit in a trip to Portland for Valentango.
Mike has studied privately with a plethora of world renowned teachers including Alex Krebs, Tomas Howlin, Brigitta Winkler, Homer and Cristina Ladas and Robin Thomas to just name a few.
Mike’s philosophy on tango revolves around an emphasis on pure kinesthetic communication. He works to empower both the leader and the follower to take control of their own voice within the dance.
Mike is available for private lessons in NY from Sept 14 until the 24th. Contact Mike at:
828-606-6783 mikeeblentango@gmail.com

Baila Tango opened the gates for tango in Istanbul, Turkey, Metin’s homeland. In a matter of a few years, Baila Tango grew in Ankara, Izmir, Eskisehir and Bursa. In fact, the influence of his school has made Turkey the fastest growing tango community in the world.
Metin considers tango as a dialogue (as opposed to monologues by the dominant men) between two independent and actively participating individuals, connecting them at a higher level. Lead and follow concepts transcend to invitations and acceptances. This heightened respect for women is the foundation of this vision. The vision is inclusive: everyone can dance tango regardless of age, background, or body type. While the stage dancers bring their art to audiences, tango still belongs to the people from which it came.

Guest DJ Ilene Marder
In addition to being the founder and director of Woodstock Tango, Ilene has established a reputation as a popular, traditional Tango DJ, who DJ's regularly at milongas in NYC and at festivals (recently Boston & Chicago). She is one of the very few non-Argentines to DJ in Buenos Aires at Salon Canning (three times) and the only one to have DJ’d Porteño y Bailerin. She is a "traditional" DJ, using cortinas, tandas and the most beautiful classic tango ever recorded. (She is also adept at offering some lovely danceable surprises from the modern and alternative tango worlds...). More about our stars...

World-renowned tango dancer and teacher Ney Melo started in the New York City and Buenos Aires tango scenes, learning from the old milongueros and dancing every night in the milongas. Ney is dedicated to inspiring students to dance tango with feeling, musicality, cadencia, and connection – the way it is danced in Buenos Aires. The atmosphere in his classes is relaxed, personable and lively, and he places equal emphasis on the lady’s role as the man’s. Technique and the essence of tango, both fundamental to dancing well, are stressed in whatever step is being shown. His instruction is highly respected and sought out by beginning and advanced dancers, as well as other teachers and choreographers.
In addition to running TangoVida, Ney has been busy touring the world. Ney regularly teaches and performs in Poland, Singapore, Malaysia, Romania, Slovenia, Australia, and New Zealand as well as extensively all over North America.

Amanda Archuleta’s dance path began in Albequerque, NM and currently she is training and teaching in New York City. Amanda began training in classical ballet and contemporary in 1988, which led her to years of performing and competing. Interested in partner dancing, she shifted her focus to swing, salsa, and many other ballroom dances, which eventually led her to Argentine Tango. Amanda’s fulltime focus on Argentine tango began in 2005; thereafter she traveled to Buenos Aires to live and study tango. She has studied under many greats with her major influence coming from Fabian Peralta, Virgina Pandolfi, Horacio Godoy. Since then, Amanda has taught at festivals and workshops all over the U.S. Most recently she has worked with Jay Abling, Robin Thomas and Ney Melo, which gives her nice diversity of style and technique.
She embraces the philosophy that a good teacher never stops learning and enjoys the process of bettering herself as a dancer as well as a teacher. Her training in Gyrotonic adds a deeper level of understanding and teaching movement in tango.

You will love their upper level class at 8.30 (included with admission) and

DJ Tine
_______________

Our guest stars' free class offered every week at 8.30 before the milonga, is an excellent opportunity to learn some fresh material and to be exposed to new teachers, ideas and styles; you may even find among our excellent guest stars a teacher who you really want to study more with, and who will make a real difference to you as a dancer.

Tango Lounge usually has 3 simultaneous pre-milonga classes (beginners, intermediate, upper level), therefore the class participants tend to be of the appropriate skill level, and each class is smaller with more individual attention.
The upper level class with the guest teachers aims to foster creativity, improvisation, quality of movement and musicality by exploring new dimensions of known techniques that are of interest to both leaders and followers. The class topics are carefully selected to be of immediate practical use on the social dance floor.

So join us in the class!
_______________

More about our stars Maria and Gustavo:
Gustavo and Maria met in 2003 when Gustavo was teaching a class at a small dance Studio in Palermo. Shortly after Maria became his assistant teacher at Salón Canning, where they started enjoying the pleasure of dancing together and sharing experiences they would never forget.
They got to know each other as dancers, teachers and individuals. Little by little, they discovered love.
Today, Gustavo and Maria dance together on the dance floor as in life, and they travel, teach and perform at Festivals and international tango events.
In their classes, good spirit, kindness and warmth are the highlights. This way, they lead their students throughout a pleasant learning process. Gustavo brings wisdom and thoughtfulness as he projects serenity and patience. María injects energy, liveliness, passion and dynamism. This way, they are the Yin and the Yang of an active and enjoyable teaching method.
When they dance, they show their love for each other, the happiness of sharing the warmth of a cozy embrace and the fantasy of a movie where the audience is always an active participant in the story.
